Categories

With the help of categories, knowledge content in Serviceware Knowledge can be searched and filtered according to various topics and thus structured.

The category makes it possible to search and filter texts and messages. This means that content related to a specific context can be found more quickly. Categories are maintained centrally by the administration.
Categories can be assigned to the text when editing a text or adding a message. Categories can also be assigned centrally for all elements under a branch.
Tip: If the category is marked as mandatory for the selected content type, the assignment must be made to a value of the category. The text or message cannot be saved unless the category is assigned.

Assign categories

As a rule, categories are assigned when texts or messages are created.

  1. Create a new custom text or open an existing one.
  2. Edit Title, Content and Paths.
  3. Go to the section Categories.
  4. From the drop-down list + Add category, select one of the categories enabled for your text type.
  5. Then select the appropriate Values for the selected category from the drop-down list.
  6. Save the text.
Categories and assigned values were assigned to the text.

To Delete categories, use the Delete symbol after the corresponding category entry.

Assigning categories to all elements of a branch

When editing a branch, you have the option of assigning the same categories to all texts in the branch in a single step.

  1. Select Enable edit mode via the context menu of a branch.
  2. In the context menu of the branch to which you want to assign categories, select the entry Assign category to all texts.
The window with the Branch details and the category assignment opens on the right-hand side of the screen.
  3. Select a behavior from the list of categories for each associated value using the slider:
    • Left / red: The category is not selected.
    • Right / green: The category is selected.
    • Center / gray: No setting has been made for the entire branch. Each element of the branch is categorized separately.
  4. Confirm the settings via Assign.
  5. Finish editing the tree.
